Work has begun on another vignette with actors Stanley Pattison and Pauline Goldsmith. This scenario is based on the Charles Baudelaire poem Le Revenant, from the collection Fleurs du mal (Flowers of Evil) published in 1857. This vignette in progress is a spoken word and speech synthesis vignette, performed as a riposte between actors and manikin, based on ‘LesRevenant’ and it’s multiple English translations, about the dark, menacing presence of an unknown, beyond the living, being.
On March 27th 2015, we did our next showing of the Eidolon performance in progress. This time the MANIDANCE vignette was performed. This is a 20 minute dance sequence performed by the very lovely Freya Jeffs, for the staff at the Sim Centre. In the sequence Freya activates a manikin, partly dismantled for travel into limbs, torso etc. as a fragmented dance partner. She teeters between delusion and awareness as to whether her partner is ‘real’, as she endeavours through tenderness, care, and at times rejection, to re-build them.
After the showing we did a feedback session with the staff, who has lots of great ideas and input, which we are going to build into the MANIDANCE vignette in the coming weeks.
